The idea is simple: to create a space where people of all backgrounds can meet to play electronic music instruments, exchange knowledge and borrow devices. Synthesizer libraries can be found in a few cities in the world but not in Berlin, one of the capitals of electronic music.
Beautiful realities such as Schneidersladen with their weekly workshops, Superbooth and the Synthesizer Museum already exist in our city, our initiative wants to complement their offerings by focusing on affordable, non-vintage instruments and gear. In a time where people are very critical of new technology (for plenty of good reasons), we want to celebrate existing, "old" tech that is cheap, accessible and easily available, allowing people to create art in a way that would have been hard to imagine just a few years ago. Too often we take this for granted.
During the first phase of the Synth Library Berlin, we would like to connect with people by organising workshops and meetups at various locations. The goal is to understand how much interest there is in this and to steer the direction of the project based on the feedback we receive. We also want to start building a network and scout for a space where the library could operate from in the long term.
